It’s that time of year again, when things get a little spooky. The stairs creak a louder, there seems to be more sounds in the dark, and even though you know it’s your neighbor’s dog, you can’t help but think “Werewolf” when you hear it howl at night. The spookiest thing for me, though, is Halloween electrical safety.
With all of your lighting and blow up vampires and ghastly decorations, it’s very easy to get swept up in the holiday spirit. However, Halloween electrical safety is very important. The first thing to check when unloading old decorations is that there are no frayed or exposed wires. Decorations can sit in storage for so long that you never know what little creatures may have chewed through the wire, or what kind of damage they may have suffered.
When setting up cords and lights, make sure that you hang them properly. Do not staple or nail through power cords or lights. This can damage the cord, and increase fire hazards. Take the extra time to hang up your cords properly to prioritize safety.
Keep all cords out of areas where people will be moving a lot. You don’t want any of your trick-or-treaters to trip and fall. Also, the Auto-Lock plug can help make sure that your decorations stay plugged in no matter what. Our 2500 series, for example, fits perfectly into a fog machine, and no need to worry about it coming unplugged suddenly.
Electrical lights can be great alternatives to candles with open flame. Try using either flameless candles, or Halloween lights to put in your Jack O Lanterns. This will give them that signature look without the danger. Also, remember to turn off all lights and electrical decorations before going to sleep. If you’re a tad forgetful like me, try putting your decorations on a timer so that there’s nothing to worry about! Leaving them on all night may increase the spookiness factor, but will also pose an extreme fire hazard, and put undue strain on your extension cords.
I hope that this Halloween electrical safety guide has helped you to make sure you have a safe and spooky holiday!
